Today is Safe Harbor’s first free day in three months, and it’s off to a good start. The KDP Select promotion started in the wee hours of the morning, and when I looked at Amazon.com ratings at 9:30 a.m., Safe Harbor ranked #6,330 in the Free Kindle Store and #94 in Free Suspense. By 11 a.m., it was #3,168 in the Free Store and #68 in Free Suspense. At 2 p.m., it had jumped to #510 in the Free Sore and to #19 in Suspense.
The goal, of course, is to hit #1, and Safe Harbor made it to the top of both the Free Suspense and Free Thriller categories on Amazon.com in its May promo.
At the British sister store, Amazon.co.uk, which is a smaller store than Amazon.com, Safe Harbor is seeing a dramatic sprint for top place. It jumped from #872 in Free Store and #23 in Suspense at 9:30 a.m. to #137 in the Free Store and #7 in Suspense at 2 p.m.
Watching Safe Harbor on this wild ride is exciting and addictive. I want to call up the Amazon pages every hour to see the updates. Free promos are great marketing opportunities. I get to introduce my novel to new readers. And, believe it or not, giving the book away for a few days results in good sales. After the last promo in May which saw more than 30,000 free downloads, ebook sales skyrocketed for the rest of the month and did just as well throughout June.
I need to catch my breath! I’m going to leave the ride for a few hours and finish off some work.
