It’s Day 5 on the RAVEN LAKE blog tour and I’m in Hillsborough, N.J., with author Chris Redding. I’m talking to her followers about creating villains in fiction–characters I love to hate.
Writers put a lot of time and thought into creating their heroes, giving them back stories, motivation, even throwing in a few flaws, which they may or may not overcome. But too often they ignore their antagonists, which is a big mistake. I try to avoid completely evil antagonists because I can’t believe in them. No one is bad all the time.

Earlier this morning I was chatting with thriller writer M.H. Callway, author of the critically acclaimed novel WINDIGO FIRE. She asked me what passion I followed in the writing of RAVEN LAKE, and I talked about the summers I spent in my kayak in the Haliburton Highlands. Here is more of what I told Madeleine.
And this afternoon, between 4-7 p.m. ET, I’ll be hosting RAVEN LAKE’s Facebook PARTY. You can attend, rain or shine, from the comfort of your own home. Just click here. Really hope to see you there!
