Forever Young!

Just caught Joan Baez’s 75th birthday celebration in New York on PBS. Blew me away! Joan was an icon of my teenage years, and she looks gorgeous today — slim, toned, stylish. Just how I’d love to look when I’m 75!

The 2-hour special featured Joan singing my favourite of all her songs, 280px-Joan_Baez_Hamburg_1973_2811730005“Diamonds and Rust,” with Judy Collins, one of her folk contemporaries in the early ’60s.

Other highlights: a duet with Paul Simon, “The Boxer”;  “Don’t Think Twice, You’re Alright” with The Indigo Girls; and Joan’s renditition of  “Sweet Low, Sweet Chariot.” Plenty of others.

Show ended with Joan singing, Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young.”

All this was MORE THAN just nostalgia!

I knew we had a lot in common. She was looking fantastic. The voice was still Joan but she did not try the high notes. I thought I was Joan Baez in those distant days and knew all the words to her songs, That was a good concert with plenty of ‘oldies but goodies”
